Something Like an Avengers Reaction
On this week’s show I tried to articulate why watching Avengers made me uncomfortable. Not like I had an weird theater seat or anything (the 3D glasses were annoying, though) but in my life.
It was just so damned good.
Back in 2008, when Iron Man surpassed my expecations for a comic book movie that wasn’t about Batman, I was excited about the Avengers Initiative post-credit scene. Then I thought about the logistics of cramming four or five superheroes into a movie when we barely could figure out how to not make a sucky one with only one good guy.
Remember the terribleness that was/is X-Men United?
Yeah so I was hoping that Marvel could cast a decent Captain America, Thor, Hulk and then have them mix in with Iron Man while maintaining some semblance of the same tone of all the movies.
It seemed impossible.
It wasn’t. That makes me feel something close to jealousy or envy or something. I don’t know. I mean, it just makes me feel uncomfortable. Now I can’t just walk around producing mediocre stuff.
I don’t know. I think I’m crazy.
Listen to us talk about it on the Deranged Pengwin Podcast.
